This Wush Wush microlot comes from Finca Patio Bonito, where Carlos Arturo Trujillo and his daughter Paola have spent nearly five decades perfecting their craft in the fertile highlands of Caldono, Cauca. Named after the Wushwush region in southwestern Ethiopia where it was first discovered, this rare heirloom variety has found a second home in Colombia's volcanic soils and ideal climate.
Wush Wush is a rule-breaker in the coffee world. The variety's small, dense beans develop remarkable sweetness during roasting, while the natural process amplifies its inherent complexity. Paola, who previously worked as a professional cupper and buyer in Nariño and Huila, returned to the family farm in 2022 to revolutionize their processing methods. Her innovations with thermal shock and anaerobic modulations bring out the variety's full potential.
At 1700 meters above sea level, Patio Bonito's 11 hectares harbor 47,000 coffee trees across 13 varieties. But it's their Wush Wush that truly shines, delivering cacao depth balanced by bright cranberry tartness and the caramelized warmth of sugar browning. The natural processing lends it a boozy complexity with just enough sugary sweetness to round out the cup.
This is coffee for adventurers who appreciate both tradition and innovation, where Ethiopian genetics meet Colombian terroir and a family's five-decade legacy meets cutting-edge fermentation science.
